With a thumbs-up to James P. Johnson, the acclaimed master and perhaps the inventor of Harlem stride style, Wendy and I acknowledged Sylvia Marlowe's lively interest in American jazz. She apparently never played stride style, however, even during her years with The Chamber Music Society of Lower Basin Street - her forte was the Boogie-Woogie repertoire of Meade Lux Lewis and "Pine Top" Smith.
