With a thumbs-up to James P. Johnson, the acclaimed
master and perhaps the inventor of Harlem stride style, Wendy and
I acknowledged Sylvia Marlowe's lively interest in American jazz.
She apparently never played stride style, however, even during her
years with The Chamber Music Society of Lower Basin Street - her
forte was the Boogie-Woogie repertoire of Meade Lux Lewis and "Pine
Top" Smith. A sample follows.
